ALMORAFIK

ALMORAFIK (Arabic for "the companion") is an educational Q&A platform for Algerian students preparing for the baccalaureate exam. Students post questions on any subject (math, physics, Arabic, French, English, natural sciences, history and geography), and teachers or classmates answer them. The motto: "Questions are everywhere, and the answers are here." How it works: • Ask a question, with images and math formulas (MathQuill editor). • Answer other students' questions. • Vote on answers so the correct ones rise to the top. Key features: • A personalized question feed ranked by a recommendation score: unseen questions first, matching the student's specialty, weighted by votes, answers and images, with a time decay for older posts. • Real-time notifications with Pusher, stored so unread ones persist. • Search, saved questions, question ratings and reporting of inappropriate content. • A resources library of curated books and YouTube videos, which students can save. • Student tools, including a baccalaureate average calculator that estimates the final grade from expected marks. • User profiles with roles and permissions, authentication with NextAuth and JWT, and image uploads. • Bilingual interface (Arabic and English) and installable as a PWA.

Problem

Baccalaureate students often get stuck on exercises outside class hours, with no easy way to reach a teacher. Help is scattered across Facebook groups, where good answers get buried and nothing is checked.

Approach

Built a full-stack Next.js platform with API routes and MongoDB, where questions and answers are organized by subject and specialty and answers are ranked by votes. I designed a recommendation score to personalize each student's feed, and added real-time notifications, a resources library and study tools.
